The “Birth of Venus” is a painting by Sandro Botticelli, dating back to around 1482-1485 and preserved in the Uffizi Gallery in Florence. Created for the Medici villa of Castello, it is preserved in the Uffizi Museum in Florence; perhaps in ancient times it was a companion piece to the equally famous Primavera by Botticelli, also in the same museum. It is considered a supreme symbol of the Italian Renaissance, but also a symbol of the city of Florence and its art, as well as having been for many artists an unsurpassed and universal ideal of female beauty, just as Michelangelo's David was for what concerns male beauty.
